Statement by Secretary Fudge on the One-Year Anniversary of the PAVE Task Force

HUD Secretary and Task Force Co-Chair lauds progress of historic interagency group dedicated to eliminating bias in home appraisals

Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is joining 11 other interagency partners across the Biden-Harris Administration to highlight the progress made to ensure that every American who buys a home has the same opportunities to build generational wealth through homeownership. The White House released a roundup of highlights of what PAVE accomplished over the last year.

Secretary Fudge is the Co-Chair of the Task Force alongside Ambassador Susan Rice, the Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, both leading the group to reduce barriers to homeownership and erode the influence of bias on the entire U.S. economy.

“One year ago, Ambassador Rice and I joined President Biden’s call to address a form of discrimination that plagues far too many Americans and puts Black and Brown homeowners at a severe disadvantage,” said Marcia L. Fudge, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). “Bias in home appraisals isn’t only a detriment to the fight for equity, it’s a hindrance for our entire economy. I’m grateful to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and our interagency partners for supporting this work so far, and we’re ready to embark on the next chapter together.”

One year ago today, the Biden-Harris Administration’s Interagency Task Force on Property Appraisal and Valuation Equity (PAVE) – led by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia L. Fudge and White House Domestic Policy Advisor Ambassador Susan Rice – released the PAVE Action Plan, the most wide-ranging set of commitments ever announced to advance equity in the home appraisal process.
