STATEMENT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ON TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY
WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued the following statement to commemorate Transgender Day of Visibility:
"During a time when the rights and dignity of transgender people are aggressively under attack across this country, this Transgender Day of Visibility is a time to be reminded that you are seen and supported. Far too many LGBTQI+ Americans face unconscionable prejudice. This impacts them as they seek housing as renters and homeowners, and they are especially vulnerable when experiencing homelessness. On this day and every day, we recognize the resilience, strength, and joy of transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people. We celebrate the activism and determination that have fueled the fight for transgender equality. We acknowledge the adversity and discrimination that people of all genders continue to face across our Nation and around the world."
“At HUD, we stand with transgender people and communities and work to ensure that people of all gender identities have a place at the table – and a place to call home. HUD has been a leader in the fight – your fight and our fight – for equality. Over the last two years, we have worked to ensure that our housing programs are open. Not to some. Not to most. But open to all.”
"Under the Biden-Harris Administration, we will continue to promote justice and safety for transgender and gender non-conforming people in our country and around the world."
